Tura, Mar 25: In a major breakthrough in the fight against criminal gangs, the special operations team of the East Garo Hills district police have successfully rescued a vegetable vendor from Assam who was kidnapped by a gang of kidnappers from Nongchram village on March 23rd midnight.
The 57 year old vegetable vendor Hanif Ali belonging to Krishnai town in Assam’s Goalpara district was sleeping in the house of one Mahabel Marak’s house when an unknown person entered the house and took him away.
A complaint was lodged at Rongjeng police station on March 24 evening and, on receiving the information, the East Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Bruno A Sangma launched a search and rescue operation after collecting information from available sources.
On Friday at around 1.30 pm, the special operations team entered Dimit Chikamagre village and busted the hideout where the victim was held and rescued Hanif Ali.
The abductors fled away on seeing the arriving police team by taking advantage of the thick jungle. Operations are still on to nab the culprits.
