East Jaiñtia Hills police arrests gang of robbers from hideout in Ryngsong Shylla village

Shillong, Mar 12: Meghalaya Police on Saturday busted a gang of robbers wanted in petrol pump robberies during a raid in Ryngsong Shylla near Umlawang village, East Jaiñtia Hills District in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

Police recovered one AK-47 rifle, 14 live rounds of AK series ammunition, machetes, a motor cycle bearing registration number AS 27 D 2482 and several other incriminating materials.

Those arrested have been identified as Jotish Daimary (43) of Udalguri in Assam, Bipul Basumatry (37) of Bhergaon, Udalguri, Sansoma Mooshahary (32) of Kusung Desa, Chirang in Assam, Shankar Boro (35) of Pandbai, Udalguri and Fajal Haque (33) of Hablakha, Kamrup rural.

Superintendent of Police, East Jaiñtia Hills, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said the police launched a special operation based on specific inputs on the intervening night of March 11 and 12, 2022, at a hideout at Ryngsong Shylla near Umlawang village in East Jaintia Hills District, in which four persons were arrested while their accomplice, Fajal Haque, was picked up from Guwahati with the help from the neighbor police.

The SP said during preliminary interrogation, the accused persons revealed their involvement in the recent robbery cases of petrol refilling centers at Khliehriat, Shillong and Ri Bhoi.

“A thorough investigation is being carried out to unearth the entire conspiracy in the commission of these offences,” Dhanoa said.

The first incident took place at a petrol pump in Ri Bhoi on January 7 followed by the incidents at two petrol pumps in Shillong last month.

The armed miscreants who were carrying AK-47 rifle and one 9mm pistol, came on a motorbike 220 Pulsar and barged into the manager’s cabin and looted the petrol pumps.
