Shillong, Sept 7: East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger on Friday said police has never stopped the vehicle belonging to the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) legislator from Nongkrem, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, during checking against the use of black films at Mawlai area recently.
Reacting to Basaiawmoit’s statement on the issue, Nongtnger said, “On August 22, there was random checking by Mawlai police against vehicles using black films. During that particular time at around 11.30 while checking was done, one private vehicle (Fortuner) also came and it was being stopped since it was random checking as once the vehicle infront is being stopped, naturally the vehicle coming from behind was also stopped. Our officers and men there realising that the vehicle belonged to an MLA, then without further delay, the vehicle was released without checking.”
He said this is because as per directions, all ministers and MLAs are entitled to keep one vehicle with black films.
“Some of the ministers and MLAs have already submitted (number plates of such vehicles) to us and accordingly we are acting on that,” the SP added.
