EC keeping a close watch on election campaigns in Meghalaya: CEO

SHILLONG, APR 10: Chief electoral officer (CEO) Dr BDR Tiwari on Wednesday said the election commission is keeping a close watch on the election campaigns by political parties ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

“We are keeping a close watch over the entire campaigning of the different political parties as that is important,” Tiwari told reporters.

According to him, concerned teams are in the field to keep check on violation of model code of conduct.

“We are also keeping a watch over social media, electronic media, print…,” he said while adding that the commission will ensure MCC is fully enforced in letter and spirit.

On law and order, the CEO said, “We are keeping very close watch on the entire situation, so the entire machinery including police and district administration we are very much activated and all the incidents, all the situations we are keeping close watch.”

He informed that the 40 companies of central armed police force (CAPF) are being deployed in the different parts of the state, of which 22 companies for Shillong constituency and 18 for Tura constituency.
