Williamnagar, April 29: Meghalaya Education Minister and Rongara-Siju MLA Rakkam A. Sangma felicitated 38 students of St. Francis De Sales Secondary School, Nongalbibra, for securing first division with letter marks in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Examination 2025.
Each of the high-achieving students received a cash prize of ₹5,000 per subject with letter marks. This motivational initiative, launched by the minister four years ago, aims to boost academic aspirations among students in his constituency.
The felicitation ceremony began with a warm welcome, including performances of traditional dances and songs by the school band and students. School principal Father Abraham Puthenpurachal delivered the welcome address, expressing gratitude to the Education Minister for acknowledging the hard work of both students and teachers. He noted that such recognition has been a driving force behind improved academic performance in the region.
As the chief guest, Rakkam A. Sangma extended greetings on behalf of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and the state cabinet. He explained the purpose behind launching the felicitation initiative, emphasising that it was designed to inspire students to strive for excellence.
“I launched this initiative four years ago with the hope of motivating our students. I promise to continue it as long as I serve as your MLA,” he said. He also pledged personal support to any student from his constituency who secures a Top 10 rank in the SSLC examination at the state level, including assistance in gaining admission to any reputed institution in India.
The minister praised the efforts of the 38 achievers and urged the current Class X students to follow in their footsteps. He also expressed appreciation for the dedication of teachers who have consistently delivered strong academic results.

Further demonstrating his support for education, Sangma presented a cheque of ₹5 lakh toward the salary fund of the Higher Secondary School, continuing his annual contribution to bolster educational infrastructure in the region.
