Shillong, Oct 20: District Tuberculosis (TB) Office, East Khasi Hills District (EKH) , on Thursday held a “Food Distribution Support Scheme” for Tuberculosis Patients at the Social Service Centre, Bishop’s House, Laitumkhrah.
A total of 22 beneficiaries received nutritional food and ration. The ration is regularly distributed to the patients once in a month. According to reports, there are 1300 TB patients in the EKH district.
During the programme, Dr Jennifer Kharwanlang urged the patients who attended the program to be TB champions and spread the message to others who are hesitant to come forward.
She mentioned that the medications for TB is a six months course and when patients lapse they have to start all over again. Dr Jennifer also emphasised the need for their nutritional support.
Annabella Nongrum, a mother of a TB patient, gave her testimony of how her son had recovered from TB and was grateful to the doctors and also the social service centre for their continued help.
