‘Elected Representatives’ under scrutiny in Meghalaya for dissuading people against Covid-19 vaccine

Must read

Shillong, July 10: 92 percent of people who have died due to COVID-19 in Meghalaya had not taken the vaccine. To make matters worse, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma revealed that there are some ‘elected representatives’ who have been openly criticizing and not really promoting the vaccination programme, although he did not disclose the names.

Urging the elected representatives to stop creating unnecessary confusion and act responsibly, he said leaders have a responsibility to ensure that the people are protected.

“As members we do our research. The entire world is doing research, evidence is clear that vaccination is saving lives,” he said.

He shared that “92 percent of the people who lost their lives to COVID-19 had not taken a single dose of vaccination. So the data is clear that vaccination is absolutely necessary.”

Stressing on the necessity of vaccination, the chief minister urged all elected members and everyone to take vaccinate against COVID-19. “We are moving forward aggressively. Our numbers are almost touching 8 lakh now – so the numbers in the weeks and months to come are going to go up,” he said

He also added that the government is trying to push for 100 percent vaccination of health workers and others.

To those who are averse to taking the vaccine, he chided “if you are not interested in saving people’s lives, at least don’t say anything which will discourage people from taking the vaccine.”
