The period 48 hours before elections, known as the ‘silence period’ or ‘pre-election silence’, is when all campaign-related or election-related activities are supposed to cease. No one, including citizens, journalists, politicians, etc., is allowed to engage in such activities during this time.

This is done to provide voters with a peaceful break from campaign influences, enabling them to make considered decisions while voting.

Also, during the Silence Period it is prohibited all political officials, whether on private or official visits, from using pilot cars, beacon lights and sirens. The use of loudspeakers is also prohibited.
