Must read

TURA, March 30: A woman was killed and her friend left seriously injured after a wild elephant attacked them in a jhum field in Kherapara area on 27th March.

The three women, Chetmilla Marak (aged 46) along with Etmilla Marak (44 years) and Merita Sangma went from their village to the jhum field at Nabangdagre in Kherapara for cultivation of crops when suddenly they saw the wild tusker which charged at them.

While Merita Sangma escaped by running in another direction, the elephant gave chase to Chetmilla and Etmilla Marak quickly catching up with them.

The elephant lashed out with its trunk and hoof leaving both women grievously injured in the jhum field.

Merita was able to rush back to the village to alert the villagers and seek help.

By the time the villagers arrived in the jhum field the elephant had left and the two seriously injured women were found. They were being rushed to hospital for medical treatment when Chetmilla Marak passed away.
