Empowering governance: IIM Shillong’s training for Arunachal’s officers

Shillong, Dec 18: IIM Shillong will help Arunachal Pradesh in improving governance and public service delivery.

The Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis, IIM Shillong, has launched a five-day Management Development Program (MDP) aimed at strengthening the capabilities of mid-level government officers from Arunachal Pradesh. Running from December 16 to 20, 2024, the program seeks to upskill 30 officers, each with over a decade of service, to enhance governance and public service delivery in the region.

The inaugural session opened with a welcome address from Dr. Sanjeev Ningombam, Head of the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis. Dr. Ningombam underscored the program’s well-structured curriculum, emphasizing its role in fostering innovation, efficiency, and improved administrative practices. He highlighted the program’s focus on practical outcomes and its potential to inspire transformative changes in governance.

Prof. D.P. Goyal, Director of IIM Shillong, delivered the keynote inaugural address, spotlighting the crucial role of administrative officers in driving good governance. He urged the officers to embody principles of integrity, initiative, and people-centric service. Prof. Goyal emphasized the necessity of embracing change, adapting to administrative shifts, and fostering a culture of continuous learning to improve both personal and organizational performance.

The MDP’s five-day agenda covers a spectrum of essential governance topics, including leadership and team building, project management, and technology-driven governance. Special focus will be placed on the adoption of digital tools such as e-governance platforms, GIS-based planning, and data-driven decision-making. Sessions on cybersecurity and data privacy will address the growing need for secure government systems. The program will feature interactive workshops, discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions led by domain experts, equipping participants with actionable strategies to overcome contemporary administrative challenges.

This initiative underscores IIM Shillong’s enduring commitment to capacity building among government officials. By equipping officers with modern governance tools and methodologies, the institution aims to create a cadre of leaders ready to address the complexities of public administration.
