Shillong, Jan 25: A Maths Campaign, a state-wide iinitiative has been launched by North East Centre for Community Impact and Engagement (NE-CCIE) and Nurturing Minds, the student body of IIM Shillon to demystify mathematics and making it accessible and enjoyable.

The North East Centre for Community Impact and Engagement (NE-CCIE) and Nurturing Minds, the student body of IIM Shillong have launched an initiative to revolutionize education in Meghalaya.

The Maths campaign which is a part of the initiative seeks to foster analytical thinking among students across Meghalaya.

A five-day Winter Workshop was held at Mawkasiang Umroh Presbyterian School and Quidotto Memorial SSA RCLP School—adopted by IIM Shillong last year—the to inspire young learners to embrace holistic education beyond textbooks.

The workshop which ran from January 20 to 24, combined academics, arts, and life skills to redefine education in the region. Students explored environmental themes through art contests, engaged in innovative math games, conducted hands-on science experiments, and even learned safety protocols. The immersive activities were designed to encourage critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability.

Physical and mental well-being were also taught, with sessions on yoga, sports, and dance underscoring the importance of a balanced lifestyle. The program concluded with a cultural extravaganza at the IIM Shillong campus, where students showcased their newfound skills through performances that reflected their creativity and confidence.

“This workshop is more than an educational program; it’s about empowering students to think critically and adapt to challenges,” said Dr. Teidorlang Lyngdoh, Chair of NE-CCIE. “We aim to cultivate changemakers who can transform their communities and beyond.”

Echoing this sentiment, a representative from Nurturing Minds stated, “Education must prepare students for real-world challenges. Initiatives like the Maths Campaign are essential to laying the foundation for curiosity, confidence, and excellence.”

The initiative by IIM Shillong and its partners has planted seeds for a brighter, more empowered future for Meghalaya’s youth.
