Erpakon Murder Case: Public rally and meeting held to condemn the murder of a local resident

Nongpoh, May 17: In a display of community solidarity condemning the heinous murder case, residents of Erpakon Village in Ri Bhoi District, on Friday, gathered for a public meeting and peace rally to condemn the brutal murder of (L) Kyrmen Lyngdoh Nonglait, the victim and a local resident who lost his life at the hands of a non-tribal individual identified as Raju Rajbhar on May 11.

Dorbar Shnong of Erpakon demanded justice for the grieving family of (L) Kyrmen Lyngdoh Nonglait, and as part of the rally, residents of Erpakon also burnt an effigy of Raju Rajbhar (the murderer).

The rally witnessed the participation of all the local residents of Erpakon Village, accompanied by various social organizations of Khasi and Jaintia Hill along with Ri Bhoi District, local women’s organizations, and school students also took part in the protest.

During the public gathering, speakers expressed their outrage over the murder committed in Erpakon, they strongly urged the police department to treat the case with utmost seriousness and ensure that the perpetrator faces severe consequences, including life imprisonment.

The Dorbar Shnong of Erpakon lauded the Seng Samla and Seng Longkmie for organizing the public meeting and peace rally. These events served as both a condemnation of the tragic incident and a heartfelt expression of condolences for (L)Kyrmen Lyngdoh Nonglait’s family.

The victim leaves behind a wife and seven young children.

In their speeches, community leaders emphasized the need for unity in combating such heinous crimes. They vowed to remain vigilant, ensuring that no non-tribal individual takes the law into their own hands.

The gathering concluded with a one-minute silence in honor of the victim’s family, followed by a peaceful rally covering a distance of 2 kilometers from Erpakon’s football field to National Highway 06.
