Shillong, Oct 3: The Ex-MDCs of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) have expressed gratitude towards the incumbent Chief Executive Member (CEM), Pyniaid Sing Syiem, for his decision to release the pending 50 percent of the pension for the Ex-MDCs.
Speaking to reporters, Ex-MDC from Sohryngkham, Handle Mukhim, informed that the Executive Committee (EC) introduced the Pension Bill for Ex-MDCs in 2002, and in 2006, the Bill received assent from the Governor of Meghalaya.
However, the total pension amount has not been released yet, as stated by the Ex-MDC from Sohryngkham. He explained that due to the non-receipt of the pension funds, the Ex-MDCs filed a case in the Meghalaya High Court. In 2009, the High Court instructed the KHADC to implement the pension scheme for the Ex-MDCs of the Council.
Mukhim further explained that since 2012, the pension funds have been stopped, compelling the Ex-MDCs to take the matter to Court again. Mukhim informed that to date, they have only received 50 percent of the total pension amount.
Addressing their concerns to the incumbent CEM of the KHADC, Pyniaid Sing Syiem assured the Ex-MDCs that the pending pension amount would be released in installments, utilizing the available funds of the Council.
The Ex-MDCs also expressed gratitude to the former CEM, Titos Chyne, for his support in this initiative.
