SHILLONG, MAR 2: The personal security officer (PSO) of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) Storgy Lyngdoh was arrested from East Khasi Hills in the wee hours of Saturday.
When contacted, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Rituraj Ravi confirmed the arrest of the HNLC cadre. He said that the police are coming up with a statement on the arrest shortly.
Sources however informed that Lyngdoh had sneaked into Meghalaya from Bangladesh and was arrested from his residence at Mawlynrei, Khliehshnong during an operation by the EKH police.
Lyngdoh was part of the HNLC’s delegation which participated in the peace talks with the government.
This also came after there has been a surge in the distribution of demand notes by the HNLC in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region.
The HNLC had pulled out of the peace talks alleging that the government has failed to address their five core demands which include providing amnesty to the leaders and cadres of the outfit.
