Shillong, Nov 10: As Meghalaya officially welcomes ‘Eastern West Khasi Hills’ as its 12th District with the upgradation of the Mairang civil sub-division into a district on Wednesday , here is a list of facts about the new district that one may not be aware of.
Historical facts
– The district is the Birth place of the Freedom Fighter, U Tirot Sing Syiem, the Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw who fought against the British is in Nongkhlaw Village.
– Mairang Civil Sub-Division was inaugurated on November 10, 1976 with its headquarter in Mawsawa, Pyndengumiong, Mairang, West Khasi Hills District, exactly 45 years before this day (November 10, 2021) when it turns into a district.
– Mairang, which will be the district headquarters, is connected by National Highway 44E from Shillong which goes further to Nongstoin.
