Guwahati, Mar 11: Assam Police busted a fake birth certificate racket and arrested a person in connection with the case in the South Salmara Mankachar district on Monday.

The arrested individual has been identified as Zohirul Islam (49).

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a search operation on Monday at Baghapara Bou Bazar, under Kalapani Outpost in Mankachar Police Station.

During the operation at Zohirul Islam’s residence, authorities seized forged documents and equipment used for creating fake birth certificates.

The seized items include 50 fake electronic birth certificates, 27 handwritten birth certificates with hospital seals,11 fake death certificates,134 Aadhaar cards
,11 PAN cards,25 suspected forged voter ID cards,3 SBI ATM cards,8 PNB ATM cards,1 Canon printer,1 ream of pink Xerox paper.

“The search was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses and was video recorded. A document forgery network is suspected. The investigation is ongoing, and we have arrested one person in connection with the case,” said a police official.
