Guwahati, Mar 19: Two persons were seriously injured after a leopard attacked them in their residence at Mariani in Assam Jorhat district on Monday evening.

The duo has identifed as father and son Nikhil Todo and Kamal Todo, who were sitting in their varanda in the evening hours when the leopard attacked them.

The incident occurred at Bhatpuria Mirijan in Mariani.

According to sources, both were rushed to hospital for treatment but the condition of Nikhil Todo is stated to be critical.

Nikhil bore serious injuries during the attack.

The incident has sparked a palpable tension in the entire area and the villagers are fearing to go out.

Meanwhile, the forest officials have reached the spot and try to tranquillize the leopard but the leopard ran away.

Man-animal conflict has been rising due to shrinking of forest covers and most of the times the animal enter human habitation resulting in conflict.
