Tura, June 7: Fear and insecurity is stalking students from the north east after a group of their friends were attacked by unidentified assailants inside their home in Bangalore (Bengaluru) city in what was initially believed to be a robbery incident but later suspected to be more deep in conspiracy.
A group of students from Tura, Karbi Anglong region of Assam and West Bengal, who were jointly residing as tenants at 3rd Cross, Pillapa Road were attacked by unidentified local goons who barged into their home and assaulted them on Wednesday.
The men robbed them of their belongings, including mobile phones, money and important documents.
One of the students associated with the victims said that they initially thought it to be a case of robbery but a second attempt the next day appeared to show it to be a deliberate attack.
One of the students received injuries to his chest and rib cage arising from the attack.
A student from Tura Dakopgre locality was also one of the victims residing in the same house.
In a clear sign that the incident was a deliberate attempt to target the students, the same group of assailants returned to the building on Thursday morning, reportedly brandishing a dagger.
The frightened students were able to save themselves by staying behind locked doors and raising an alarm to alert their neighbors which forced the criminals to flee.
The students have filed a report with police and investigation is underway, but several north east students from the city have expressed displeasure with the handling of the matter by the local police and claim that authorities allegedly tried to downplay the incident, advising the victims to prevent the story from going out.
