Dibrugarh, April 14: The first-ever international Sangken Festival began today at the Golden Pagoda premises in the Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh. The three-day event marks a significant cultural milestone for the region.
Sangken is more than just a celebration—it’s a time of spiritual renewal, symbolizing the cleansing of the soul, strengthening social bonds, and welcoming a new year with hope and positivity.
Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, ministers Ojing Tasing and Dasanglu Pul, MLAs Chow Zignu Namchoom and Tapi Darang, along with a host of administrative officers and dignitaries, were present at the inaugural ceremony.
Speaking at the event, DCM Mein highlighted the cultural importance of Sangken, noting that the ceremonial bathing of Lord Buddha’s images and the tradition of water sprinkling reflect the values of purity, goodwill, and unity.
He expressed hope that the festival—celebrated by the Tai-Khamti and Singpho communities—will continue to foster harmony, mutual respect, and collective progress. He also announced that starting this year, Sangken will be celebrated as an international festival to promote both religious and cultural tourism in Arunachal Pradesh.
In addition to attendees from Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, thousands of people, including foreign delegates and tourists from countries such as Thailand, Myanmar, England, Switzerland, and Cambodia, participated in the festivities.
Cultural troupes in vibrant traditional attire added splendour to the celebration as people of all ages joyfully engaged in the water-sprinkling rituals, embodying the spirit of togetherness.
