Shillong, Dec 8: The Meghalaya Basketball Association (MBA) on Wednesday announced that the association will be hosting the inaugural edition of the Senior Nationals Northeast Zonal Championship 2021 (Men’s & Women’s) at St Anthony’s School in Shillong.
The Championship will be held from December 16 to December 19, 2021.
Speaking to media personnel in Shillong, General Secretary of MBA, Donald Steven Wahlang said, “The Northeast Zonal Championship will consist of 6 affiliated state associations under the Basketball Federation of India. The purpose of the new format is to ensure the best participation from the various zones and help the other lesser known states strive to be a part of the Main Championship. The states which are a part of the Championship are Assam, Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Meghalaya.”
“The Basketball Fans of Shillong will get to witness the best teams from the Northeast fight it out over 4 days of Basketball…..we will play host to Lalrina Renthlei from Mizoram, current India Senior men’s team player who was a part of the recent SABA Gold medal winning India team and former National Team player from Assam, Birender Hudda to name a few. With Meghalaya hosting this Championship, the association hopes to see the next generation of basketball players get inspired to continue to improve and also to inspire the next batch of basketball stars from the state” added Wahlang.
Entry of Spectators will be subject to Government protocols for Sports events and rules and regulations set by the association.
