Shillong, Feb 10: The State Police, acting on specific intelligence, arrested five individuals in Mawsynram and seized a country-made pistol, four rounds of .22 caliber ammunition, and incriminating documents.
The arrested persons have been identified as Aidonsing Nongsiej (40), Orally Khardewsaw (33), Wanrilang Nongkynrih (33), Mossingstar Nongbri (28), and Pynshailang Puwein (30).
Confirming the development, Vivek Syiem, Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District, stated, “Based on a tip-off, the special operations team intercepted a group of five individuals. One of them was wanted in the Lumdiengjri cheating case. A search of their vehicle led to the recovery of a country-made pistol and ammunition.”
Syiem dismissed rumors about the weapon being of Russian origin, clarifying, “It is not of Russian make.”
He further noted that while incriminating documents were seized, additional details could not be revealed. “A case has been registered at Mawsynram Police Station. Further operations will be conducted, and investigations are ongoing,” he said.
When asked whether the group was part of a larger criminal network, Syiem remarked, “As of now, there is no indication of a wider group. It appears to be a gang involved in various criminal activities.”
