Itanagar, May 13: In a heartening display of wildlife conservation, five Asiatic black bear cubs rescued from different parts of Arunachal Pradesh are now under the expert care of the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) at the Centre for Bear Rehabilitation and Conservation (CBRC) in the Pakke Tiger Reserve.
The rescue effort began on May 2, when two female bear cubs were found near an agricultural field in Sitang village. Officials from Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary swiftly moved the cubs to a mini-zoo-cum-rescue centre in Roing for temporary care.
Authorities suspect their mother may have been a victim of poaching.

These two cubs were officially transferred to CBRC on May 8 by Divisional Forest Officer Mito Rumi, Range Forest Officer Dr. Kabuk Lego, and their team during a formal handover ceremony.
The story of the other three cubs is equally moving. First spotted on April 17 by villagers gathering firewood, the cubs were seen with their mother, who soon disappeared. The cubs eventually wandered into neighbouring villages.
Locals, moved by compassion, took care of the cubs until forest officials intervened.
Pakke Tiger Reserve DFO Satyaprakash Singh praised the villagers for their kindness and highlighted the importance of community participation in wildlife conservation.
With WTI’s intervention, the five cubs are now receiving the specialised attention they need for rehabilitation and, potentially, release back into the wild.
