Tura, Sep 30: At least five people were killed and several others injured when an MTC night bus travelling from Tura to Shillong fell into the Ringdi River at Nongchram in the intervening night of Wednesday and wee hours of Thursday morning.
In a post, Meghalaya Police said the accident occurred at around 12 AM on Thursday.

It added that the Rescue team from Rongjeng and Williamnagar Fire and emergency services rushed to the accident site for helping the victims. The injured passengers are being shifted to Rongjeng PHC for medical assistance. Rescue attempts are on to save lives.

The place of accident in Nongshram Bridge is the border between East Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills district.
The river had swollen due to rain with strong current. As per the list collected from concerned counters there were 9 (nine) passengers from Tura and 12 (Twelve) passengers from Williamnagar.
