Five persons held in Tripura while smuggling with cannabis

Agartala, May 28: In a major operation, Tripura police has arrested five persons and seized huge amount of cannabis(ganja) from their possession when they were en-route to Silchar from Dharmanagar in Tripura’s North District on Tuesday.

The five persons were identified as Shivani Rani (24), Bhullu Singh (28), Amar Nath (35), Satyaranjan Gain (43), and Bhullu Kumar (29). All of them were from Bihar.

“After getting tip off information regarding the movement of drug traffickers. We have launched an operation and arrested them from at inter-state bus bound for Silchar from Dharmanagar at the Churaibari check post on the Assam-Tripura border,” said a police official.

He said, “we had information regarding the smuggling, so we stopped the bus and searched the vehicle. During the search, we seized small packets containing cannabis hidden in the bodies of five persons. The black market value of the seized seven kilogram of ganja is worth several lakh rupees,”.

“We have registered a case under NDPS Act against the accused persons. They are all resident of Vaishali district of Bihar,” the police official said.
