Tura, June 5: Dr. P. S. Shukla, Vice Chancellor, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, inaugurated Food Testing Laboratory cum 10 days summer internship programme at North-Eastern Hill University, Tura Campus, in the presence of Dr. Kadirvel, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Guwahati.

The event, was attended by prominent dignitaries and experts, underscored the importance of food analysis and quality control in the North East region

In addition to the inauguration, the chairman released a comprehensive training manual, to serve as valuable resources for food safety professionals and researchers.

Jagdish Chelani, IAS, Chairman, Meghalaya Basin Development Authority and DC, West Garo Hills, Meghalaya Prof. J.U. Ahamed, Campus Director, NEHU Tura Campus, and Dr. R. Sasikumar, Principal Investigator of Food Testing Laboratory (FTL) and Nodal Officer, Incubation Centre, NEHU Tura campus, Meghalaya were also present for the occasion.

Dr. G. Kadirvel, Director of ICAR-ATARI, Guwahati, spoke on the significance of the Food Testing Laboratory for the North East region. He elaborated on the laboratory’s potential to improve food quality and safeguard public health by ensuring rigorous testing standards.

Prof. P.S. Shukla, Vice Chancellor of NEHU, Shillong, delivered the keynote speech, he commended the establishment of the Food Testing Laboratory as a landmark achievement for NEHU. He stated that the laboratory has maximum grant contribution from Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India, New Delhi.
The Incubation Centre, NEHU Tura Campus will be a centralized platform for governing the food testing laboratory and functioning smooth with sustainability mode.

Incubation centre, NEHU Tura have been doing various capacity building programme, hands on training, workshops and also Agri-Horti and Apiculture input supports to various farmer cluster groups in collaboration with ICAR-NIBSM, Raipur, Chhattisgarh, under the scheme of North East Hill Program (NEH) for the welfare and socio-economic development in the North Eastern Region (NER). The said 10 days summer internship has sponsored by ICAR-NIBSM, Raipur. And this scheme has implemented under the able guidance and leadership of Dr. P. K. Ghosh, Director, ICAR-NIBSM and Dr. P. Mooventhan, Senior Scientist, Nodal Officer, ICAR NIBSM, Raipur, Chhattisgarh. In addition, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between ICAR-NIBSM and NEHU under this programme on 2020 for the period of five years.
