Forest & Environment Dept celebrates World Environment Day in Dalu, competitions held

Tura, June 5: The department of Forest & Environment Social forestry Division, West Garo Hills, Tura in collaboration with Garo Hills, CEB TURA celebrated world Environment day 2023 on Monday.

The World Environment Day was observed with the theme” Solution to plastic pollution” in sacred heart higher secondary school, Dalu. Several other schools likelike Bengali Secondary School and Govt. Higher secondary school Dalu also participated in the event.

Competitions like drawing, essay writing, slogan writing competitions were organised for the students. Also, the winners of the competitions were given gift and prizes.

The chief guest of the program was PR Sangma, MCS, SDO CIVIL SUB DIVISION, H B Marak (IAS Retd.) Also, R K. Marak DFO, Forest along with other dignitaries were present at the program.

The dignitaries also marked the celebration by commuinity plantation in the school compound. School children were also given plant samplings.

This year, the govt of India initiative seeks to translate the vision of life into measurable impact. It is designed with the objective to mobilise one billion Indians and global citizens to take individual and collective action for protection and conservation of environment during the year 2022-28.

Ahead of World Environment Day, the forest department of West Garo Hills distributed around 1.1 lakh saplings.
