Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi awarded Assam’s highest civilian award

Guwahati, Feb 14: Former Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi has been awarded Assam’s highest civilian award, Assam Baibhav, in Guwahati on Tuesday.

Governor of Assam, Gulab Chand Kataria presented the award to Ranjan Gogoi in the presence of Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar and State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The award carried a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and lifelong medical treatment, the cost of which will be borne by the Assam government.

The state government conferred the award on Ex CJI Gogoi, who is presently a member of Rajya Sabha in recognition of his contributions to the field of justice and jurisprudence.

It can be noted that, Gogoi is the son of Kesab Chandra Gogoi, who once served as the Chief Minister of Assam, is also the only person from the northeast to serve as the Chief Justice of the Nation.
