Must read

Shillong, Feb 9: Former legislator from Raksamgre Limison D Sangma on Tuesday quit the Congress and joined the ruling National People’s Party (NPP).

Welcoming him to the party’s fold during a meeting held here, NPP national president and chief minister Conrad K Sangma said that Limison, who resigned from the Congress on Monday along with his numerous supporters, has joined the NPP.“We are all very happy and we welcome him into the NPP family. I am sure with his entry into the NPP, the party will grow from strength to strength not only in Raksamgre but also in the whole of Garo Hills region and the Meghalaya state as a whole,” he said.

Speaking to reporters, Limison said that he has taken the decision after seeing that there are no more leaders in the Congress party.

When asked about the reason for not joining the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) considering that he was close to Dr Mukul Sangma, the former MLA however said, “He (Mukul) also left the Congress and I also left the party. It is an individual choice because in the future, I predict that the NPP government will come back.”

Limison is the brother of AITC legislator Jimison D Sangma, who was among the 12 rebel MLAs who defected to the AITC.
