Shillong, Mar 15: Former Deputy Chief Minister, Rowell Lyngdoh, one of the stalwarts of the state, was laid to rest on Tuesday in the burial ground at Laitumkhrah Presbyterian, Lawjynriew.
The former Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya passed away on Sunday (March 13, 2022) due to heart complications, leaving behind his wife and four children. He was 85.
Lyngdoh was amongst the former legislators of the state who got elected as member of the first Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in 1972, the first Assembly elections conducted after Meghalaya became a full-fledged state.
Lyngdoh had been with the Indian National Congress (INC) for a long time before joining the National People’s Party (NPP) just ahead of the 2018 MLA Assembly Polls. He was later appointed as the President of the NPP Mawkyrwat unit.
