Shillong, Feb 20: HDR Lyngdoh, the former Home Minister of the State and UDP candidate from Sohiong constituency, passed away on Monday evening.
It was reported that Lyngdoh blacked out after a meeting held at Mawmaram and was rushed to Bethany Hospital on Monday at 4 pm and died from a cardiac arrest later.
HDR Lyngdoh first won the MLA elections in the year 1988 from the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) and continued till 1998. In 1998 MLA elections, he was defeated by RA Lyngdoh of the United Democratic Party (UDP).
In 1999, he was elected as the MDC from Sohiong-Nongspung Constituency from the Indian National Congress (INC) party.
He again took over as an MLA in the 2003 MLA elections and retained the Sohiong seat for 15 years till 2018. He lost the 2018 MLA elections to Samlin Malngiang of HSPDP.
He was supposed to contest again in the upcoming MLA elections of 2023 but mournfully left for his heavenly abode.
