Shillong, May 10: Former State Cabinet Minister and veteran politician, Sing Mulieh, passed away on Tuesday morning at his residence at Loompyrdi Iongpiah in Jowai Town. He was 71.
He died of heart attack and his mortal remains has been taken to his parental village Ialong just after his demise. Mulieh’s last rituals will be held on Thursday.
Mulieh represented the Jowai Assembly Constituency for two consecutive terms viz., 1998 and 2003. He was an MDC of Jowai North Constituency for four consecutive terms and after his election as MLA of Jowai Assembly Constituency in 1998, Mulieh put up Pyrkhat Shylla as his candidate in 1999 but Pyrkhat lost to J U Nongrum.
During his long spell in JHADC from 1978 to 1994, Mulieh was also elected as Chief Executive Member (CEM) besides holding other posts.
He lost the Jowai seat to veteran Congress leader Dr R C Laloo in 2008, apparently due to the decision to shift the Jowai Civil Hospital from Panaliar to Ialong.
Mulieh was preparing for a comeback in 2023 on BJP ticket from Jowai Constituency. He had already started door to door campaigning in some parts of the constituency and the response was positive.
