Shillong, Dec 20: UDP leader and  ex-MLA of  Pariong Constituency, Irin Lyngdoh, along with the leaders of HSPDP and BJP from Mawthadrashan joined the National People’s Party (NPP) on Monday.

14 members of the UDP, HSPDP and BJP  joined the NPP in the presence of Health Minister and the NPP National General Secretary, James K Sangma at the party’s office at Shillong. Irin Lyngdoh was absent in the welcoming ceremony but has sent a letter to the NPP General Secretary.

Welcoming the new members to the party, Sangma said the NPP is very democratic in its working and all members are treated equally. “The NPP is the only national party who has a vision for the tribal brothers and sisters, and also towards the religious minorities in this country.”

“It is our constant endeavor that the Party wants to bring in good leaders who are really sincere and dedicated towards working for the people, towards bringing about change… the NPP believes in unity because alone we cannot achieve anything… it is always through teamwork and through the contributions of leaders like you that all of us, when we work together, we’ll be able to achieve our goals,” Sangma said.

“We all need to work hard in taking our state forward and to achieve that we all need to work under one political ideology and under one political platform,” he futher added.

He also stressed that the NPP is not just a political party but a family. “The new members will understand how we work, we have a close knit community and working with the NPP is a very family like environment… even our party chief, he likes to call ourselves a family more than a political political party,” Sangma mentioned.

The new members were presented with the party’s constitution and scarf.
