Must read

Aizwal, June 14: The Chief Minister of Mizoram, a former IPS officer who led many daring operations against criminals, is now a “Black Belt” holder in Taekwondo, a popular Korean martial art. However, he receives the “Black Belt” as an honor for his contributions in popularising the sports in the state.

The honor was conferred by Seoul-based Kukkiwon, also known as the World Taekwondo Headquarters.

In a brief ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s Office on Thursday, Grand Master Prof Hee Do Kim, 9th Dan, and Grand Master Lee Jae Ku, International Master 8th Dan, South Korea, presented Lalduhoma an honorary 7th Dan black belt, along with a certificate of appreciation.

Expressing his gratitude, the Chief Minister remarked, “The reason I am being conferred this black belt is due to the exemplary performances of the Mizoram Taekwondo Association, our fighters’ success at the national level, and their efforts in popularising the sport in Mizoram.”

Lalduhoma is the second Chief Minister of Mizoram to receive this honour, following former Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, who was awarded the same title by Kukkiwon in 2012.

This prestigious title places Lalduhoma alongside international celebrities like former US President Barack Obama and British soccer star David Beckham.

In India, his peers include Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, apart from ex-Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla.
