Foundation Day of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre

Shillong, April 27: Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre celebrated the 120th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s visit to the city of Shillong. The day is also observed as the Foundation Day of the Institute that also runs a skill development centre for Computer, Art, and Language.

However, due to the upsurge of COVID19 cases in the State, the celebration which usually witnesses thousands of youths has now been conducted online with the live streaming of the speeches, cultural programs and also connecting to the dignitaries through Video Conferencing.

The Chief Guest of the session, Hon’ble Chief Justice of Meghalaya, Biswanath Somadder, inaugurated the celebration and also the third issue of Ka Jingshai – The Light, a trilingual magazine of the Centre. In his address, he said, ‘The e-zine is a fervent request to mankind to let us live in harmony and peace. Let us help each other and better ourselves by evolving towards better individuals.”

Darifia Nora Lyngdoh has been awarded the prestigious Vivekananda Award of Excellence for her dedication and commitment to the service activities of the Mission.

Swami Achyuteshananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Narottamnagar was the Guest of Honour. He has been instrumental in bringing up the Institute to its present glory. Connecting over from Narottamnagar, he addressed the audience and gave tributes to all the monks and staff, who contributed to the cause of the institute.

Swami Hitakamananda, the Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Shillong remembered the presence of Ramakrishna Mission in North-Eastern India for 97 years serving students and other beneficiaries. All this is to provide exposure to the people of this region to the outside world.

Performances by Ka Tbian Ki Sur Hara – Seng Khasi Kmie Music School, Sanskriti, and the troop of Pinky Ghosh, in the backdrop of the colorful decoration, based on art forms of different North-Eastern states of India was a sight to behold.

Sumar Sing Sawian, Raphael Warjri, Dr. Moushumi Dey and Dr. Anita Panda were among the dignitaries felicitated during the event for their selfless contribution to the magazine.
