Foundation laid to replace aging bridge over River Ringgi in Dadenggre

Must read

Tura, March 19: Taking a significant step towards boosting connectivity in the oldest civil sub division of Garo Hills, foundation for the construction of a reinforced cement concrete (RCC) bridge over the River Ringgi in Dadenggre was laid on Tuesday by James Pangsang K Sangma, Chairman of the Meghalaya Infrastructure Development Corporation (MIDC).

The 9-crore project, funded by the central government and initiated by the Conrad Sangma government in the state, will see a robust and reliable bridge replace an aging, simple structure that has connected the two sides of the river for generations and was in dire need of a replacement for a long time. It was severely damaged during a cloud burst some years ago.

Chief guest James Pangsang K Sangma hailed the leadership of the state chief minister saying it would not have been possible “without the relentless efforts and intervention of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, whose commitment to development in Garo Hills has been instrumental in bringing the project to fruition.”

The land for the bridge was generously donated by the Dadenggre Catholic Parish, a gesture that has been widely appreciated.

Speaking at the ceremony, James highlighted the critical role of infrastructure in fostering growth. “Without proper roads and bridges, development cannot happen. This bridge is not just a structure; it is a lifeline for the people of Dadenggre and Garo Hills. It will open up new opportunities and improve the quality of life for generations to come,” he said. He also appealed to the public to continue supporting the government’s efforts, particularly when it comes to providing land for developmental projects.

He praised the efforts of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and former Dadenggre MLA and ex minister James Pangsang K. Sangma, highlighting the significant improvements in road infrastructure across Garo Hills and Dadenggre. “This bridge is a testament to what can be achieved when the government and the community work together. It is a major step forward in our journey towards progress,” he added.

The event was also attended by local leaders, community members, and officials.
