Four held, mistaken for kidnappers; Found to be scrap collectors after police probe in South Garo Hills

Must read

Tura, April 30: Four scrap collectors were detained by the public at a village in South Garo Hills district just because of misinformation spreading alleging that they were attempting to kidnap a minor school girl on Wednesday.

Accordingly, Chokpot police rushed to the spot.

Enquiry into the incident revealed that the alleged individuals – identified as scrap collectors belonging to non-tribal community were proceeding from Deku Bazaar towards Rimrangpara in a tempo (AS 18 AC 0357).

Upon reaching the Deku-Diganggre junction, they halted their vehicle momentarily to allow a public bus to disembark students.

Once the bus departed towards Tura, the individuals (scraped material collectors) resumed their journey and turned their vehicle in the direction of Rimrangpara.

Coincidentally, a minor school girl happened to be in the scene. Unfamiliar with the individuals and observing the vehicle stopping and turning nearby, she grew alarmed and in a state of fear, cried out and fled towards Deku Bazar.

Later, few local individuals travelling from Tura to Chokpot came across the distressed minor and brought her to Deku Bazaar. However, on reaching Deku Bazaar, the minor girl who was in distress, misunderstood the situation, and misinterpreted the whole incident to the local residents who later intervened and subsequently detained the four individuals (scrap collectors) along with their vehicle at Alagre village and brought them to Deku Bazaar.

He also urged citizens to refrain from spreading of misinformation to general public so as to prevent any law and order situations.
