Four Muay Thai fighters from Meghalaya to compete in Muay Thai World Championship at Abu Dhabi

Shillong April 25: Four athletes and two officials of Muay Thai from Meghalaya, along with participants and judges from rest of the country, will represent the country in the Muay Thai World Championship which will be held at Abu Dhabi (UAE) from May 26 to June 4, 2022.

The Muay Thai World Championship is being organised by the International Federation of Muay Thai Association (IFMA).

The athletes are Pynnehbor Mylliemngap, Blaseibok Kharbuli, Mightyson Nonglang and Skhemborlang Marwein; and the Referee and Judge include Angelus Sun and Pynsuklang Sumer.

The four were selected from the National Muay Thai Championship which was held in Kuman Lampak, Imphal, Manipur from December 16 to 19, 2021, informed the President of Muay Thai Association Meghalaya, Angelus Sun.

Sun made a request that the athletes and officials need contribution in promoting, popularizing as well as financial support from the government, individual or businessman who want to promote sports and help the athletes.

Since the total expenditure needed is Rs 9,69,600, Sun said the association has sought financial support from the Minister of Sports and as well as the Governor.

Muay Thai has recently been certified as an Olympic Sport by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.
