Shillong, Oct 15: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday announced that the Gambegre bye-election will be held on November 13, 2024.
The counting of votes will take place on November 23, 2024.
ECI made the announcement through a press conference at the Plenary Hall of Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on Tuesday afternoon.
The ECI also announced the schedule for General Election to Legislative Assemblies in single phase of Maharashtra (288 seats) which is slated to happen on November 20th and Jharkhand 2024 in two phases – the date of polling is 13 November in the first phase and second phase along with Maharashtra on November 20. Counting for both the states and bye-elections will be held on November 23
The bye-poll in Gambegre was necessitated following the resignation of sitting Congress legislator Saleng A Sangma after he was elected as Tura MP, earlier this year.
While NPP is fielding chief minister’s wife Dr Mehtab Chandi A. Sangma, TMC has fielded Sadhiarani M. Sangma, the sitting MDC and wife of former Rangsakona legislator, Zenith M. Sangma.
Congress, on the other hand, is likely to field Jingjang M. Marak, a close aide of Tura MP Saleng Sangma; further he was reportedly the lone applicant for the ticket.
