Gambegre bye-poll: NPP leads by over 1000 votes after round 1 of counting

Shillong, Nov 23: The results of the round 1 of counting of votes for the Gambegre bye-election have been announced. The results show National People’s Party’s (NPP) Dr Mehtab Chandee A Sangma taking a healthy lead of over 1000 votes over her nearest rival.
After round 1, Dr Mehtab Chandee has polled 3392 votes.

Her nearest rival is AITC Candidate Sadhiarani Sangma, who has secured 2291 votes.

At the third spot is Congress candidate Jingjang M Marak with 2279 votes.

He is followed by independent candidate Jerry A Sangma with 264 votes. At number 5 is BJP’s Bernard N Marak with 151 votes and at the last spot is Sengkrabirth M Marak with 37 votes.

The round 1 follows the counting of postal ballots.

A total of 14 tables will be used for the counting and results will be declared in 4 rounds.

NPP – 3392
AITC – 2291
Congress – 2279
Jerry A Sangma – 264
BJP – 151
Sengkrabirth M Marak – 37
NOTA -19
