Ganesh Das Hospital row: Mawlyndep headman seeks justice after negligence leads of infant’s death, needle in mother’s body

Shillong, May 4: The village headman of Mawlyndep in Ri-Bhoi District, Jinu Kharbuki, has sought justice for the family of Patlima Rani, who not only had a needle left in her body but also lost her child due to negligence and carelessness by the nurses and doctors at Ganesh Das Maternal & Child Health Hospital, Shillong.

He headman has demanded the government to compensate for the expenses borne by the family of Patlima Rani, despite having a harrowing time at the hospital.

The baby unfortunately died on Tuesday evening at Nazareth Hospital after Ganesh Das Hospital referred it to Nazareth Hospital on Tuesday morning due to lack of ventilator support, whereas the baby was born on Monday morning. Kharbuki said infant died due to the carelessness of the in-charge of this case.

The village headman on Wednesday also demanded the government to penalize the ones who have carelessly left a needle inside of Patlima’s body, which had to be removed at NEIGRIHMS.

The village chief also called for an Executive Committee meeting to have a talk with the Minister in-change of Health and Family Welfare Department, Ampareen Lyngdoh.

The mother’s condition is improving after the needle was taken out of her body at NEIGRIHMS.

Meanwhile, a relative of Patlima Rani, Donald Rani expressed their gratitude towards NEIGRIHMS which willingly took the case of Patlima and successfully took out the needle from her body.

He, however, condemned the carelessness of Ganesh Das Hospital.

Patlima’s husband was unable to do anything to help due to their poverty, and could only shed tears.
