Must read

Tura, June 19: A landslide at Dobasipara, right across the Dobasipara bus stand, destroyed two shops on Wednesday morning in Tura, West Garo Hills.

The accident happened at around 8 AM on Wednesday morning due to the heavy rain, where a portion of the retaining wall collapsed onto the shop below, completely destroying it.

The police arrived at around 10:30 AM and surveyed the site.

The retaining wall was old and already in a bad condition and major cracks on it can still be seen.

The grocery shop that was destroyed was run by Gopal Das, a resident of Dobasipara. The owner has suffered major loss which is estimated to be around 1 to 2 lakh rupees. The shop had beverages and other goods.

Subum Hajong, a nearby resident, is also is facing difficulty commuting as the entrance to his house has been blocked due to the landslide. He also owns a small grocery store which was destroyed in the disaster, but it had been closed since quite a few days and didn’t have much items in it.

Just adjacent to Subam’s shop is a small tea stall, owned by a 70year old Subha Das, which was miraculously saved from the landslide but still is under high risk.

Luckily, none of the shops were open at the time of the disaster and no loss of life has been reported.

Additionally, minor landslides have also occurred nearby in the area of Dobasipara, though not causing any inconvenience to the traffic flow.
