Garo Hills police bust cattle smuggling to Bangladesh, 50 animals seized

TURA, July 14: Police in the plain belt region of West Garo Hills district have successfully busted a smuggling gang that was illegally transporting a huge number of cattle in three vehicles meant for Bangladesh.

A total of fifty cattle were seized in the operation.

“On Thursday our Phulbari police team received credible information that a large number of buffalo calves are being transported illegally from Patharkata to Hallidayganj for the purpose of smuggling to Bangladesh. We promptly set up a naka checking on the Phulbari-AMPT road and successfully intercepted 03 pickups carrying 18 buffalos in total,” informed West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police V S Rathore.

By the time the operation had ended the total number of cattle had risen to fifty heads.

With the vehicles seized and drivers detained along with cattle vouchers, police have begun investigation to identify the smugglers behind this racket.
