TURA, July 18: The continuing operation by West Garo Hills police to bust inter-state criminal gangs involved in large-scale car and motorcycle theft has led to the arrest of 30 persons and recovery of over 70 stolen two wheelers since the past two weeks.
“Our continuing operation has led many customers who unknowingly purchased second hand motorcycles to come forward and verify the authenticity of their vehicles. Over 70 stolen vehicles have been recovered,” informed West Garo Hills SP Vivekanand Singh Rathore.
The police chief said that among the 30 persons arrested included car lifters, middlemen and buyers.
The ongoing operation has significantly solved many cold cases connecting Assam and Meghalaya.
“There were 20 undetected cases from both the state that have been solved during this ongoing operation,” informed SP Rathore.
Many of the stolen motorcycles that have been recovered were in Dadenggre, Phulbari, Jengjal and Tura.
