Garo Hills Society awarded with Excellence

Tura, Feb 1: One of the only cooperative societies in the Tikrikilla region, run by the Catholic church, which has been doing successful work in the cooperative sector has been recognised for its work with a north east award in Guwahati on Monday.

The National Cooperative Development Corporation ( NCDC ), under the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, awarded the North East Regional Award for Cooperative Excellence and Merit to the Muktidata Multipurpose Co-operative Society,Tikrikilla at a special function today at its NCDC Regional office in Guwahati.

The award of excellence was handed over by NCDC Regional Director, Sebastian Joseph, and Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Meghalaya T.M. Kharsyntiew in the presence of Asst. Registrar of Competative Societies, West Garo Hills, K.P. Choudary.

Catholic church priest Rev. Fr. Benoy Joseph, who has been the brainchild behind the success of the society along with women Self Help Group members, Chairperson of the society Smt. Wilna Marak , and Secretary Smt. Nelco Sangma received the Award on behalf of the society.

Speaking to The Meghalayan, a jubilant Fr Benoy Joseph said that the hard work and perseverance of the society members has paid off with the recognition. He said that this was the only Cooperative Society from Meghalaya to receive the Award.
