Garoland Statehood supporters to rally this December in Delhi during winter session of Parliament

TURA, Oct 30: MPs of India’s Parliament will soon have to bear witness to the voice of lakhs of people craving for their own identity and state as delegates from over half a dozen states, including Garo Hills, plan to gather in New Delhi this December for a rally for two consecutive days to press upon the country’s law makers to hear their long standing demand.

This decision was announced to a crowd of hundreds of Garoland supporters during a rally in Tura on Saturday afternoon in which separate state demand committee leaders from several states came to participate in the Garoland rally.

The Garoland rally was organised by Nikman Ch Marak led Garoland State Movement Committee and it hosted the leaders of the National Federation for New States, a conglomerate of bodies across India which also has Garoland leaders in the group.

The leaders from Gorkhaland, Tripura, Karbi Anglong and Telengana arrived in Tura to participate in the public meeting that took place at Teteng Aja government college field that later included a rally through AOC, Hawakhana and Circuit House junction.

“Delegations from Garoland, Gorkhaland, Bhundelkhand, Ladakh, Vidharbha, Bodoland, Karbi Anglong and Tipraland Tripura will head to Delhi during December’s Winter Session of Parliament. We will stage a rally for two days to remind the leadership of India about the demands of the people which are genuine and a constitutional demand guaranted in the constitution of India,” announced Dr Munish Tamang, President of the National Federation for New States (NFNS) representing Gorkhaland in North Bengal who marched together with Nikman Ch Marak, the NFNS vice president and long time advocate for Garoland.

Nikman Ch Marak, who is currently the deputy Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council represents Garo National Council party which is the oldest political party of the Garos that strieve for a separate state of Garoland.

Nikman led the rally in Tura and termed the huge turnout of supporters for Garoland as peoples wish for their own separate state. He assured to continue the fight for achieving Garoland as it is the righful demand being sought by the garo people.

The delegation from different states who came to participate in the Garoland rally were Dr. Munish Tamang, President of the National Federation for New States (NFNS) and representing Gorkhaland state demand, P. Niroop Reddy, Adviser of NFNS and Senior Advocate of Supreme Court of India representing Telengana state, Stalin Engty, Secretary of NFNS for karbi Anglong (Assam) and Sukla Charan Noatia, Assistant General Secretary of Indigenous People Front of Tripura.

There were also delegates from the Khasi Jaintia region of the state led by President of Hill State People Democratic People K.P. Paniang, president of HITO, Shillong and from Garo Hills it included former CEM of GHADC Purno K Sangma and former deputy CEM Augustine Marak.
