Guwahati, April 18: In a significant verdict, the Guwahati High Court has pronounced Naba Kumar Sarania ineligible to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Kokrajhar constituency.

Guwahati High Court Advocate General Devajit lan Saikia has reacted on the judgement ,he said that “today a landmark judgement was passed by Guwahati High Court.”
The sitting MP from Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency, was contesting the seat since 2019, but a complaint was lodged in 2019 by Janak Lal Basumatary challenging the tribal certificate based on which Nava Kumar Sarania participated in the election process in the reserve category seat.
After receiving the complaint the state level scrutiny committee under the concerned department that is WPT and BC department started the proceeding.
The court’s decision marks a pivotal moment in this ongoing saga, and could change the politics of Kokrajhar. State government had affirmed that all the reserve categories seats are for the actual deserving candidates who belong to reserve categories and only they should contest.
