Shillong, Dec 30: Former TMC MLA George B Lyngdoh has strongly condemned the actions of a social media influencer who chanted ‘Jai Shree Ram’ inside a Mawlynnong church, calling it infringement of the religious rights and that such behavior fosters an environment of hatred, misunderstanding, and communal disharmony.
Lyngdoh has urged the residents of Mawlynnong village to file an FIR against social media influencer Akash Sagar, who has over 1.5 million followers on Instagram, for violating their religious rights. He emphasized that such acts are not only unacceptable but also constitute an assault on peace and communal harmony in the state.
“These are stray elements who, perhaps driven by their beliefs, religious enthusiasm, or a desire to propagate their faith, end up infringing upon the religious rights of others. Such actions are completely unacceptable as they create an atmosphere of hate, misunderstanding, and communal discord,” Lyngdoh stated.
He further remarked that this incident appears to be a deliberate attempt to disrupt societal harmony and infringe upon the rights of many individuals. Stressing the importance of maintaining peace, Lyngdoh said, “This seems to be an attack on peace and communal harmony. Complaints have been filed, and the government must ensure the rule of law prevails.”
