Tura, Sept 6: A much heated contest is on the cards for the post of Deputy Chairman of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) as the NPP-led ruling side as well as the opposition group led by the Congress are getting their armoury prepared to fight it out to the second most important position after Chairman in this oldest autonomous body of Garo Hills.
On the first day of the three-day session, Chairman Rakesh A. Sangma on Monday announced that the election to the post of Deputy Chairman will be held on Wednesday after 11 AM.
The last date for submission of nomination is Tuesday at 3 PM.
The NPP has nominated Siju MDC Albinush Marak (NPP) for the contest while the Congress is putting up Rongrong (Resubelpara) MDC Rinaldo K Sangma.
The ruling NPP alliance has a slight edge in the numbers with 16 against the opposition 12, not including Tura BJP MDC Bernard Marak who is currently seated on the opposition bench.
