The three day budget session of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) is being postponed to a fresh date due to Covid infections with the chairman of the House, Rakesh A Sangma, who was supposed to chair the session, testing positive.

The news on the Covid front is not looking good for the GHADC with reports emerging that even CEM Benedic Marak and his adviser Akki Sangma also becoming positive.

“I have tested positive for Covid-19 and currently undergoing mandatory quarantine as per COVID protocol. Under the circumstances, I shall not be able to conduct the detailed Budget Session slated for 27th July. Since the GHADC has not elected the Deputy Chairman in order to conduct the session of the Council in absence of the Chairman, I do hereby postpone the session until further orders,” notified Rakesh A Sangma, Chairman of the GHADC.

The budget session was due to end by July 29th.

This is the first time in the history of GHADC that a proposed and scheduled budget session is being postponed due to a health and medical crisis. The GHADC budget is important as members of the Executive Committee prepare budget allocation for their respective departments and also looks into revenue generation and salary disbursement to its employees.
