Tura, May 9: Secretary of the GHADC and senior Meghalaya government official, Rikse R Marak, has given a representation to the government through the Chief Executive Member asking that she be relieved from her position in the district council which she has served for over two years to try and bring in reforms.
The council secretary has also pointed out to the personal attacks and character assassination she has had to endure from opponents who have been against steps that were being taken to reform the council administration.
“I have tried my best to bring in the reforms, inspite of resistance from various fronts. However, from the latest developments, it appears that I am being targeted as a lot of personal attacks and character assassination is being carried out against me,” mentioned Secretary Marak in her representation to the government.
A political angle into the attacks has also not been ruled out by the Secretary who revealed that one of the elected members had called her up on the night of May 4th to enquire if she was attending office the next day.
“Though I was on leave, I told him I would be attending. Thereafter, there was a notice from the Secretary of the Non-Gazetted Employees Association asking the employees to come to office early on Wednesday as I planned to attend office,” revealed Secretary Rikse Marak in her representation to the government.
“I had taken up this post with bonafide intentions to start reforms, which I have to a certain extent initiated. However, since from the latest developments it appears to me that is more than meets the eyes, it will not be proper for me to continue, ” mentioned the GHADC Secretary in her representation letter.
Meanwhile, the GSU CEC along with AYWO and FAF have extended their support to the protest of the council employees urging the authorities to do the needful to mitigate the problem of the staff and clear their salary dues at the earliest.
